Professional and local talented amateur musicians perform a varied programme of both instrumental and vocal music to suit all tastes.

Cumberland Hotshots Jazz Band "Through the decades"

The band plays an entertaining and exhilarating selection of popular jazz
tunes from the last century. Most of the programme will be familiar but
it may be surprising to learn in which era some of these numbers were
first performed.

David Houlder Organ "Passacaglia"
Assistant Organist of Leeds Parish Church, David Houlder presents a programme
that shows us the wide and varying styles of composition using the musical
form "Passacaglia". His programme includes the mighty Passacaglia
and Fugue by J.S. Bach, three movements from Changing Moods by Christopher
Steele and the exhilarating Introduction, Passacaglia and Fugue by Healey
Willan.

Eden Brass
Eden Brass is a group of musicians from the Eden area with around 150
years of brass playing experience between them. For the last ten years
they have performed a wide variety of music at indoor and outdoor venues
throughout North Cumbria and South-West Scotland. They will appear as
a brass quartet of 2 trumpets, horn and trombone.

New Organists Showcase
Five new organists showcase their talents on the Cathedral's Grand Organ,
among them pupils from Austin Friars and Trinity Schools and one of our
very own Bass Layclerks.
Works by J.S. Bach, Hurford, Vierne, Stanford and others.

Violin
This young duo perform a mix of traditional Flamenco, gypsy and folk music
improvising as they go!

Dalston Male Voice Choir
The Dalston Male Voice Choir (www.dalstonmvc.org.uk) was founded in February
1985. This year is its Silver Jubilee. The Choir has about 36 members.
The objects of the Choir are to advance male voice singing by presentation
of Public Concerts, to give pleasure to others and to help charitable
causes. The DMVC has a policy of encouraging up and coming young musicians
and they often appear as guest artists at concerts.

Magda Loth-Hill Violin
Born in Carlisle, Magdalens sang in the Cathedral Youth Choir until she
moved to Chetham's School of Music. She won the Keldwyth Award in 2009
and is now a pupil of Itzhak Rashkovsky at the Royal School of Music.
4 November
Oliver Margerison Baritone and Michael Hancock
Piano
Come and hear this talented young baritone and ex-Carlisle Cathedral chorister
perform early Italian Arias, Lieder by Schubert and Wolf, and English
Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Quiilter. He is accompanied by his
teacher Michael Hancock.

Austin Friars School Swing Band
The Autumn series ends with a bang as we welcome pupils from Austin Friars
School. The Swing Band performs many well known numbers from the repertoire
and the Junior Choir sings songs from the secular and gospel genres.
